About George
Friday 5/9/2008
Ever since that fateful day (over 35 years ago) my brother turned me on to three albums, Cannonball Adderly, Bill Evans and Elvin Jones, I knew I had found the music for me. No other music inspired me so, and as a young pianist I knew that's what I wanted to play. Thanks Brother Jack for introducing me to those artists. Geroge Chris Wing and brother Jackson
Tea

This was the band "Tea" Dave Bergen (dms) Drew Youngs (gtr) Mark Fisher (bass). We were the rhythm section of the Palo Alto High big band. Yeah things were different then in 1972.

At Palo Alto High, the big band was directed by Charles Dowd, author of the Funky Primer drum book. I was elected to play in the "All Star" big band, which consisted of a bunch of kids from different schools. The coolest thing was playing concerts that included special guest. Highlights included drummer Elvin Jones and saxophonist John Handy.

In 1973 I joined the Foothill College big band (Los Altos, CA) and it too was a memorable experience. We also had special guest that included Chuck Mangione. I would recommend that all young musicians play in a school jazz ensemble.

My first real gig was offered to me by saxophonist John Handy while I was attending Foothill College. We played a number of gigs and opened for Weather Report, Grover Washington Jr. and Richard Pryor in 1974. John and I are still good friends and like to keep in touch. In February 2003 it was great to get together with many of his friends and play at his 70th birthday party. (This picture was taken 2006)

Midas Touch

Then there were those Top 40 gigs playing the Black Angus (remember when they had live music?) and Holiday Inn circuit for a number of years. This is "Midas Touch" in 1978. We played Canada and the western United States. Cool outfits eh!

Around '79 through '81, "Blazin" was a group that performed the pacific north west areas.

Johnny Almond with George and Nita Glover

From 93' through 97' or so, I worked with my wife Nita who is a wonderful singer. We had a few different type of groups including "A Touch of Class", a midi band with Johnny Almond on Saxophone. As a teenager I was a big fan (and still am) of Johnny's work with John Mayall and the Mark-Almond band.

We enjoyed playing the Horn blower gigs on the bay and many special occasions.

During this time I also played for two establishments as their house pianist. Five years at Maestro's in San Ramon, and four years at the Holiday Inn (Currently the Crown Plaza) in Pleasanton.

On the weekends at Maestro's, my own jazz group, the George Glover Quartet performed. The group featured some great musicians such as:
Saxophonist: Bob Johnson, Johnny Almond, & Guido Fazio.
Drummers: Achyutan, Kent Bryson & Pete Russo
Bassist's: Karen Horner, Ken Plourde & Cory Squaglia
Violist:Eric Golub

George at TriNet

In 1999 we sold our humble home in Dublin (CA) and moved to a more accommodating home in Antioch. With this move came a full time position as a web designer/developer.

There is so much more that contributed to my musical journey up to this point. Being part of bands like "Smoke" with Salah Webb, "Time Machine", a show band at Paramount's Great America and working with truly talented "local" artist that included vocalist Don Holland, guitarist/vocalist Mark Allen, saxophonist Bob Johnson, Guido Fazio and jazz drummer/guru Achutan.

Today I'm focusing on writing, arranging, and recording my jazz compositions - some of which have been waiting to be recorded for a long time. This original music will be available here on George Glover.com.

I thought while I'm at it, I would add a few pictures of my family.
